Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone.
If you cannot access the app:
Email ImmaShap@AxiomArray.co.za from the Google account you use with ImmaShap, with the subject “Delete my ImmaShap account”. We will delete your account and data within 30 days.
Your email address is also removed from the alert history of anyone who had you listed as an emergency contact.
Free-alert usage for your device. To keep the free tier fair, ImmaShap keeps a small record against your device identifier (Android ID). It holds the number of free alerts used on the device, the date its 30-day period ends, and the email address last associated with it. This stops someone deleting and recreating an account in order to reset their free alert allowance. It is deleted automatically once its 30-day period ends — no later than 30 days after the last free alert sent from the device. It is not linked to your account once your account is gone.
Your subscription purchase record. If you had a paid subscription, we keep the Google Play purchase token, with your account identifier and email address permanently removed from it. What is left is the token itself and the number of manual alerts you had already used in the billing period you are paying for. This is what lets your remaining subscription time be restored if you sign in again, and it stops the monthly alert allowance being reset by deleting and recreating an account. It is deleted automatically 30 days after that billing period ends.
Your Google Play subscription is managed by Google, not by us. Deleting your ImmaShap account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it separately in Google Play → Subscriptions. If you change your mind and sign in again with the same Google account, any subscription time still remaining is restored automatically — along with the count of alerts you had already used that month.
Support emails you have sent us remain in our support mailbox.
Q: Do I need to create an account?
A: No separate account is needed. ImmaShap uses your existing Google account to sign in. Simply tap “Sign in with Google” and select your Google account.
Q: What does the Sign Out button do?
A: It lets you switch to a different Google account — useful if you manage more than one ImmaShap account, or share a device with someone else. You’ll still receive alerts from anyone who has you as a confirmed emergency contact even while signed out, since those are delivered as push notifications to this device regardless of which account (if any) is currently open in the app. Sign back in any time to check in, manage your own contacts, or send an alert yourself.
Q: My emergency contact is not receiving my connection request. What do I do?
A: Check the following:
Q: Can I add more than one emergency contact?
A: Yes. You can add multiple emergency contacts. All confirmed contacts will receive an alert if you miss your check-ins.
Q: I am not receiving notifications. What should I check?
A: Work through the following steps:
Q: My contacts are not receiving emergency alerts.
A: Check the following:
Q: I accepted a contact request but still show as “Pending”.
A: Close and reopen the app. The status updates in real time but may occasionally need a refresh.
This is the most common reason ImmaShap stops working in the background. Many Android manufacturers — including Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, and others — apply aggressive battery saving that can prevent apps from running in the background or receiving notifications.
ImmaShap will prompt you to disable battery optimisation when you first install the app. We strongly recommend allowing this.
If you skipped that step or notifications have stopped working, follow these steps for your device:
Samsung: Settings → Apps → ImmaShap → Battery → select “Unrestricted” Also check: Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → make sure ImmaShap is not listed as a sleeping or deep sleeping app.
Huawei / Honor: Settings → Apps → ImmaShap → Battery → Enable “Auto-launch” and “Run in background” Also check: Settings → Battery → App launch → find ImmaShap → switch to “Manage manually” and enable all three toggles.
Xiaomi / MIUI: Settings → Apps → Manage apps → ImmaShap → Battery saver → select “No restrictions” Also check: Settings → Battery & performance → App battery saver → ImmaShap → No restrictions.
Oppo / OnePlus / ColorOS: Settings → Battery → Battery optimisation → find ImmaShap → select “Don’t optimise”
All other Android devices: Settings → Apps → ImmaShap → Battery → select “Unrestricted” or “Don’t optimise”
Q: I accidentally triggered an emergency alert. What do I do?
A: Tap the “I Am Safe Now” button immediately. This sends a follow-up notification to all your contacts letting them know you are safe and dismisses the alert banner on their devices.
Q: I received an emergency alert but there’s no location attached. What happened?
A: Location is only ever included for manual emergency alerts, and only if the sender has granted location permission and their device managed to get a GPS fix in time — it may take up to a minute or two depending on their signal. If it hasn’t arrived yet when you tap Acknowledged, you’ll be asked whether you want to wait up to 5 minutes for it before dismissing. Automatic missed check-in alerts never include location.
Q: The app is not checking in automatically — I have to open it every time.
A: ImmaShap does not check in automatically — you must tap the ImmaShap button yourself to record a check-in. This is intentional. The app monitors whether you have checked in, not whether you are physically active.
Q: How do I change how often I need to check in?
A: Tap the gear icon in the bottom right corner to open Settings. Adjust the “Check-in Frequency” to your preferred interval.
Q: How exactly do reminders and emergency alerts work?
A: When you set a check-in frequency, ImmaShap calculates your deadline — the time by which you must tap the ImmaShap button. Before that deadline, reminder notifications fire at regular intervals to prompt you to check in.
For example, with the default settings (3 reminders, 1 hour interval, 1 day frequency):
Important: Reminders fire before your deadline, not after it. The emergency alert fires once your deadline has passed and all your reminders have already been sent — which, with the default settings above, they will have been. If you set the number of reminders and the interval between them so that they reach further back than your check-in period allows, the earliest reminders will not have had time to fire, and the alert will wait until they have. Keep reminders × interval shorter than your check-in frequency.
You can adjust the number of reminders and the interval between them in Settings.
Q: What happens if I go somewhere without internet?
A: ImmaShap requires an internet connection to send and receive alerts. If you are going somewhere without connectivity, check in before you lose signal and inform your contacts manually. ImmaShap is not designed for use in areas without internet access.
Q: How do I remove an emergency contact?
A: Open Settings → find the contact under “Your Contacts” → tap the red minus button. Your contact will receive a notification that they have been removed.
Q: Someone added me as their emergency contact. How do I remove myself?
A: Open Settings → find the person under “Your Watchlist” → tap the red minus button.
Q: I declined a contact request by mistake. What do I do?
A: Ask the person to send you a new contact request. Declined requests cannot be reinstated — a new request must be created.
Q: Is ImmaShap free to use?
A: Yes. The free tier includes 3 manually-triggered emergency alerts per month, plus one additional safety alert each month if you go over — so an alert is never blocked the first time you exceed the limit. The free tier also displays ads. Automatic missed-check-in alerts and “I Am Safe Now” confirmations are always free and unlimited — the alert limit only applies to alerts you trigger yourself by long-pressing the ImmaShap button.
Q: What do I get if I subscribe?
A: A paid subscription increases your manual alert allowance to 30 per month and removes ads. Pricing is shown in the app and in the Google Play Store listing before you buy, billed monthly in your local currency through Google Play, and renews automatically until cancelled.
Q: How do I subscribe?
A: Tap the $ button on the app’s main screen. This opens Google Play’s own purchase screen — ImmaShap never sees or stores your card or payment details.
Q: How do I cancel my subscription?
A: Tap the $ button on the app’s main screen — once you are subscribed, it takes you straight to your subscription in Google Play. You can also go to Google Play → Subscriptions directly. Cancelling stops future billing; you keep your paid allowance until the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for, then your account automatically reverts to the free tier.
Q: If I don’t subscribe (or I cancel), does the rest of the app still work?
A: Yes. Check-ins, missed-check-in alerts, and “I Am Safe Now” work exactly the same either way. Subscription status only affects how many manual alerts you can send per month, and whether you see ads.
Q: Can I get a refund?
A: Refunds are handled entirely by Google Play, not by us. Google Play offers its own short buyer-initiated refund window (currently 48 hours after purchase) — request a refund directly through Google Play within that window. Outside of it, subscription payments are final; we don’t process or grant refunds ourselves.
Q: If I delete and reinstall the app, do I get a new set of free alerts?
A: No. To keep the free tier fair for everyone, your free-alert usage is also tied to your device, not just your account, so reinstalling won’t reset it. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Q: Where do I find emergency numbers in the app?
A: Tap the gear icon to open Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Emergency Numbers. It lists public emergency services, private ambulance services, and support and crisis lines for South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. Use the ZA / NA / BW tabs at the top to switch country. The list is built into the app, so it works without an internet connection.
Q: Which country’s numbers are shown first?
A: The page opens on the country of the mobile network your phone is currently connected to — so if you travel from South Africa to Botswana, it opens on Botswana. If that can’t be determined (for example, on a Wi-Fi-only tablet), it uses your SIM card’s country, then your phone’s region setting, and otherwise South Africa. Switching tabs only applies while the page is open; it always re-checks your country the next time you open it.
Q: Does tapping a number call it straight away?
A: No. Tapping a number opens your phone’s dialler with the number filled in — you still press call yourself. ImmaShap never places calls. On a device that can’t make phone calls, such as a Wi-Fi-only tablet, you’ll see a message instead.
Q: A number didn’t connect. What should I do?
A: Short codes and toll-free numbers usually only work from a SIM card registered in that country, so they may not connect if you are roaming on a foreign SIM. Try 112 instead. Private ambulance and rescue services listed may charge for their services. Numbers can change over time — if you find one that’s wrong, please let us know at the email address below.
Q: What does “Share My Location” do?
A: It gets your current location once and opens your phone’s share menu with a Google Maps link, so you can send it to anyone through the app of your choice — for example, a messaging app. ImmaShap does not store this location or send it to us. You’ll need location permission and location services switched on.
Q: What data does ImmaShap store?
A: ImmaShap stores your name, email address, and a device notification token in our secure Firebase database. It also stores the alerts you send, a device identifier used to keep the free alert tier fair, and — if you subscribe — a Google Play purchase token linking the subscription to your account. Location is stored only when it is attached to a manual emergency alert you send — a location you send with Share My Location is never stored by ImmaShap. Your check-in settings are stored locally on your device. On the free tier, ads are served by Google AdMob, which uses an advertising identifier. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
Q: Can I delete my account and data?
A: Yes. See Delete Your Account and Data above for the steps, exactly what is deleted, and what is briefly retained afterwards.
Q: Does ImmaShap track my location?
A: No. ImmaShap does not track or monitor your location. It only uses your location in two situations you start yourself, and only if you’ve granted location permission:
ImmaShap is a supplementary personal safety tool and is not a replacement for emergency services. In a life-threatening situation, always contact your local emergency services directly:
A fuller list for each country is in the app under Settings → Emergency Numbers. The list is provided for convenience and numbers can change; ImmaShap cannot guarantee that every number is current or reachable from your network.
ImmaShap relies on third-party infrastructure (Google Firebase, Firebase Cloud Messaging) and cannot guarantee alert delivery in all circumstances. See our Terms of Service for full details.
